TANJUNG PINANG TRIP 14 - 15 SEP 2007

TANJUNG PINANG TRIP 14 - 15 SEP 2007

Date: 14 & 15 Sep 2007
Time: 9.15 am
Attendance: Jayne, Cindy, Xiaoling & Imran
Ferry: Wavemaster
Ferry ticket price: S$45 (two-way)
Hotel: Hotel Pelangi
Hotel Total bill:Rp152,900 (S$98)

We met at Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal and bought 9.25 am ferry ticket. We were very excited on the trip. The journey took 2 hrs. We felt giddy when in the ferry.

We went out to the deck and enjoyed the sea breeze. It was so cool! We didn't feel any giddiness at the deck. The scenery was great!

Tanjung Pinang is like Malaysia street.

Imran booked the hotel as Xiaoling's father's recommended. Hotel Pelangi. The hotel provides free shuttle bus not only can drive us to and fro the hotel & ferry terminal, it also drive us to where we want to go. Driver is called 'BuYong' in Indonesia. This hotel and the driver was recommended by Xiaoling's father as her father always buy back seafood from Tanjung Pinang and he is well known by the staff.

We called for room service after we checked into our room. The food tasted normal, and I found out that their chilli padi didn't taste spicy at all.

After lunch, we went to spa. We asked 'BuYong' to drive us to a spa. We went to Aura Day Spa. The 3 of them took full body message while I took Reflxi. The total bill for the spa was Rp.520,000.

Later, we went shopping at the nearby shopping centre. We went to the supermarket and bought some snacks and drinks back.

While on our way, Imran pointed to us the other side of the island with mosque & temple. We decided to go 1 of the island. We went to the island with temple.

We need to take a small sampan to the island. It was operated by motor. The sampan was controlled by a little boy. We were shocked whenwe were told that the boy was only 10 years old. We were stunned! We were still in school playing catching when we were 10, and this young boy is already working on the sea. The young boy climbed over to get the plastic bag that chocked the motor engine bravely. He seems professinal. Wow!

The Island is actually a Kuelung, all the houses are all buit on the sea. We walked along the path, both sides are rows of Kuelung houses.

Most of the villagers are Chinese but there are also Malays. Imran told us that the Malays are on this Island can also be Buddhism. The people here live away from the town, so Sampan is their source of transport bwtween the mainland and the Island. We also saw furnitures were delivered by Sampan.

DINNER!!

Eating Seafood is one of our main purpose of this trip. We request 'BuYong' to bring us to a recommended seafood restaurant. This restaurant is opened by an old Chinese Teochew man. He can speak Teochew, so we can communicate what we want to order for our dinner. We also asked 'BuYong' to join us for dinner.

I woke up early in the morning while the rest were still sleeping. I usually woke up early and I had nothing to do, so I took my camera and took some pictures of Tanjung Pinang at the balcony. The natural kampong village is filled with morning dew and birds chippings. Actually the birds chipping came from a recorder in one of the building that breed sparrows for their bird nest.

Xiaoling suggested to walk around the hotel surroundings. We found alot of surprises at the surroundings that we woudn't be able to know if we didn't take this walk.

The swimming pool seems to be closed and this area (above picture) was the bar counter of the poolside bar.

Overall, this trip was wonderful, although Tanjung Pinang does not have much tourist attractions, but their simple village lifestyle is more enough for us to explore and learn. It's a great lesson for us to learn that how fortunate our we are. It does not have places like cinemas, shopping malls, Arcades. etc, but their life still goes on with continuous of hardwork.
